2 NGOs reveal that in 3 years, Cameroon lost over 170 billion frs in the illegal exploitation of Timber, by Vietnamese!

#BetaPipol in a document titled “Stolen wood, soiled temples: the harmful consequences of the timber trade between Cameroon and Vietnam, on the populations and Cameroonian forests”, two NGOs: Environmental Investigation Agency & The Center for the Environment and Development, reveal that in 3 years, Cameroon lost over 170 billion frs, in the illegal exploitation of Cameroon’s timber by Vietnamese!

The report states that the timber trade between Cameroon and Vietnam does little to improve the revenue of the Cameroonian state, as financial transactions are often clandestine. They are made in cash and are based on misrepresentation.

Between 2014 and 2017, Vietnamese exporters in Cameroon declared 308 million US dollars (over 170 billion FCFA) less than importers in Vietnam.

Meaning between 2014 and 2017, 170 billion frs in Timber exports made by Vietnamese from Cameroon to Vietnam, was not accounted for!

Imagine the damage it caused in the country’s  state coffers!
