#BetaPipol at 35, Abdon Atangana, is one of the best scientists in the world. He is a lecturer at the University of Free State (South Africa) and has been named among the top 1% of the best mathematicians whose work is the most cited in the world.
With an h index of 53 on Google Scholar, Abdon Atangana is on the prestigious global Clarivate Web of Science list. According to Clarivate, this distinction rewards true pioneers in their field over the past decade.
Mr. Atangana is placed on this list because of his cross-sectoral contribution, which includes mathematics and applications to real-world problems.
He has developed a new mathematical fractional operator used to model problems such as the passage of groundwater flow, the spread of infectious diseases, weather behaviour, and the type of cruise control in cars.
“Most maths formulas come from Europe, so when I introduced my operator, it was like a feeling of decolonization. It shows that Africans can also compete on the world stage.” – He said.
In 4 years, he has published in more than 20 leading journals of applied mathematics and mathematics; and in some, he serves as the first African selected as editor-in-chief.
His inspiring journey, includes the fact that he appears in the list of top 10 scientists in South Africa.
He recently received the TWAS Mohammad A. Hamdan Prize from the World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries.
