The Teranga Lions of Senegal have qualified for the final of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, after defeating Burkina Faso 3-1.
Spectators at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium were served with entertaining football, as both sides put up an excellent performance, though it ended with the exit of the Stallions .
Burkina Faso maintained resilience till the 70th minute, when a breakthrough goal for Senegal came from Abdou Diallo.
This was coupled with an early exit of the Stallions’ goalkeeper Herve Koffi in the 36th minute, following an air collision with Cheikhou Kouyate.
Senegal’s lead inspired a more imposing play on the part of the Teranga Lions, as they gained more control of the match, with their attack becoming more dangerous. Idrissa Gana Gueye went on to score Senegal’s second goal in the 76th minute.
Burkina Faso looked to come back with a goal from Ibrahim Blati Toure, which put scores at 2-1, but Sadio Mane sealed victory for Aliou Cisse’s side, in a one-on-one with Herve Koffi’s replacement, Farid Ouedraogo.
Senegal will face the winners of the encounter between Cameroon and Egypt on Thursday, 3 February.
