AFCON 2023 mascot “Akwaba” unveiled

The mascot of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations named Akwaba, was officially presented to the public on Friday, July 7 in Abidjan.

The ceremony was presided at by the chairman of the local organizing committee, Francois Amichia. “The Akwaba mascot is not an exclusive supporter of the Elephants but for the 24 teams competing,” the COCAN president said.

Akwaba represents the emblems of the host nation Ivory Coast, through the colours; green, orange and white used in the design. The mascot equally symbolizes the country’s hospitality.

Kouadio Raoul Frederic, an artist, designed the mascot. He was awarded the cash prize of 10 million FCFA.

The 34th Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to run from January 13 to February 11, 2024, in five host cities; Abidjan, Bouake, Yamoussoukro, Korhogo, and San Pedro.
