AFCON Qualifiers: Burundi send intimidating signal to Cameroon

There is every sign Burundi can spring a surprise against Cameroon when the two sides meet in September for the last day of qualifiers for the 2023 AFCON.

Burundi’s 3-2 defeat over Namibia on Tuesday, June 20, reflected the zeal that the Swallows have to qualify for their second Africa Cup of Nations.

They recorded their first victory of the qualifiers against the Brave Warriors after a 1-1 draw against the Namibians and a 0-1 loss to Cameroon.

As complicated as qualification from group C appears to be presently, mistakes will not be pardoned when the Lions face the Burundians on matchday six of the qualifiers. The game will be the determinant for the two teams that will qualify from the three-nation group.

Namibia on five points with all matches played already, are hoping one of the sides win outright to make it easier for them to advance. Burundi and Cameroon have four points each. This means a draw will make the situation more complex for the three teams.

A total of 24 nations are expected to participate at the AFCON to be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire in January 2024. So far, 15 teams have booked thier places already.
