Some Christians who visited the Marian Sanctuary of Nsimalen in Yaounde on this year’s Assumption Day, have testified of the Virgin Mary’s intercession for their problems. The Marian Sanctuary is where the image of the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared some 35 years ago.
Since the incident, miracles and several other spiritual activities are reported to have been taking place in the vicinity. On August 15, 2021, some believers who visited the place as part of their celebration of the day when Mary is believed to have ascended to heaven body and soul, narrated some stories of how lives have been transformed at the sanctuary.
Akame Wilson, one of the Christians, said his faith has been strengthened by constant visits, listening to preachings and going to the mystical swimming pool of the sanctuary. He said anytime someone enters there with faith, it is possible that any complication they are facing can disappear. “We came here with a couple from Douala, who had not been able to have children for long. Fortunately, we got here and prayed for four days, only prayers and bathing and nourishment with the word of God. Today, the lady is five months pregnant” Akame Wilson told the State broadcaster.
The Mystery of the Marian holy ground dates back to Tuesday, May 13, 1986, when some primary school pupils witnessed the apparition of the Virgin Mary’s image at Nsimalen in Yaounde.
As the story goes all of the children who saw the image are dead except for Atangana Jacqueline who unfortunately is dumb. She was the first to see the image and called it “Mary” three times despite being dumb. That’s how the sanctuary was named “Marian”.
