Cameroon’s Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji, has instructed the Governor of the Littoral region to probe into comments made by a panelist on a programme over Equinox TV.
The guest in question, Engelbert Lebon Datchoua, was intervening during the discussion on “Equinox Soir” hosted by Alain Ottou on November 3. The topic of discussion focused on President Paul Biya’s 40 years in power.
“During the programme, the accused guest in one of his interventions, made declarations considered defamatory towards the Head of State and institutions of the Republic” Atanga Nji said in a statement.
“He declared that ‘Mr Biya is one of the misfortunes that Cameroon has ever known’” The Minister highlighted.
Atanga Nji has ordered the Governor of the Littoral region to open an investigation and consult the National Communication Council, for the law to take its course.
The MINAT Boss has also asked that the TV host and panelist be suspended, with the proprietor of the media organ cautioned to regulate the content aired on his platform.
