The Gabonese Football Federation has announced that their national team captain Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, will no longer play for country.
“The FC Barcelona attacker has decided to put an end to his international career. He wrote a letter to the Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) on Tuesday 17 May 2022” an excerpt of the communique released by the Federation read.
“After 13 years of proudly representing my country, I inform you that I am putting an end to my international career” Aubameyang was quoted as saying.
The striker’s retirement means he will not be part of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers, in which Gabon will be participating.
Aubameyang is currently playing for FC Barcelona, where he has scored 11 goals after joining the club from Arsenal on a free transfer early this year.
