A boat said to be carrying oil equipment towards Nigeria on the Bakassi Peninsula, was attacked Sunday morning, by gunmen suspected to be members of the Biafra Nations League militia.
The attack in which one of the sailors was hit by a stray bullet, was intended to hijack the foreign vessel which was heading towards the maritime border between Cameroon and Nigeria, an area where the BNL separatist group often operates.
The head of the suspected group Princewill Richards, has however said on his Facebook page, that they are still investigating the attack.
“We urge everyone to go back to their normal business and all securities back to duty post” he wrote.
The Sunday attack around the oil-rich Archibong town in the Isangele Sub-division of the Bakassi Peninsula on the side of Cameroon, was unfortunately not successful for the gunmen.
