A new approach has been adopted for the recruitment of basic education teachers in Cameroon, enabling them to choose their regions of origin for posting. This is because the teachers will have to spend five years wherever they are placed before being able to move to another area.
As the Minister of Basic Education Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa, under the instructions of Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, explained, the main reason is to ensure that the teachers choose where they are sure they can feel comfortable for five years
“Choose a place where you will go and stay for a long time. You must be sure that you have all your needs supplied at that place and if you don’t have them, you must be sure that you will have means which will allow you to adapt quickly at the place” Minister Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa.
The authorities say the ‘Job Posting System’ as the initiative is called, will help to reduce the shortage of teachers in several parts of the country “the Job Posting System will be generalized which means that you cannot just recruit like that. What we have done with the Minister of Basic Education is very important. They have at least five years before moving for another post or another place.” Joseph Le, Minister of Public Service.
This comes at a time when 3,000 teachers have just been recruited out of 40,221 candidates who took the test. Information from the Ministry of Basic Education further indicates that another recruitment exercise for 3,000 more teachers, will be organized by the end of August 2021.
