Cameroon’s unsatisfactory performance during the just-ended AWCON in Morocco, is yet to get off the minds of supporters, who believe the right players were not selected for the tournament.
Brenda Tabe, prolific scorer at the 2022 Military Women’s World Cup in the USA, is being used as the yardstick to illustrate how talents were ignored for a grandiose sporting event like the Women’s AFCON.
The 18-year-old striker who is a key player with Guinness Super League top side AWA FC, scored 8 goals at the Military World Cup, helping Cameroon get silver against France. They set a record as the first African team to reach the final.
Meantime, the Indomitable Lionesses in Morocco, did not make it past the quarter-finals of the AWCON.
Their chances of qualifying for next year’s Women’s World Cup therefore became narrow.
Gabriel Zabo and his girls will have to participate in an interconfederation playoff to determine if they qualify for the World Cup or not.
