In a communique released Wednesday 13 April, by the Minister of Communication Rene Emmanuel Sadi, firm determination has been expressed by the government to bring to book persons responsible for the gruesome attack and killing of four penitentiary administrators in Bui Division, Tuesday morning.
Kigha Theodore Kume, Northwest regional delegate of Penitentiary Administration and three of his collaborators, were returning from a handover ceremony at the Nkambe regional prison, when their vehicle was attacked, government sources say.
While multiple reports suggest separatist fighters are responsible for the act, defense officials have indicated that investigations are still underway to understand the circumstances that led to the ambush.
“According to the early information we got, the attack was committed with automatic arms” a statement said, identifying the three other victims as Nnang Lionel Ajang, head of service for General Affairs at the Northwest regional delegation of Penitentiary Administration; Nelson Chia, principal prison guard, bodyguard at the service of the Northwest regional delegation of Penitentiary Administration; and Owona Yannick, major prison guard, driver in service at the Bamenda Central Prison.
Local administrative authorities and defense forces have said they are working hard to lay hands on the attackers and bring them to justice.
