Elections for a new President of the Cameroon Bar Association, are being held at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex, with over 3000 lawyers expected to cast their votes.
The polls which began Saturday, June 18, have to produce a winner out of the seven candidates that are running for the top job.
Barrister Claire Atangana interim president, Arlette Ngoula Fotso, Ebah Ntoko Justice, Ernest Duga Titanji, Mbah Eric Mbah, Philippe Olivier Memong, and Suzanne Tam Bateky, are vying to replace former President Charles Tchakoute.
Barrister Tchakoute Patie died in October 2020, Paris, following COVID19-related complications.
The ongoing elections will equally see 15 other members of the Bar Council elected into different functions of the institution.
“I’m sure that the team that will be elected will be the good team to lead the lawyers for the next two years,” said Jean de Dieu Momo, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Justice, as he visited the election venue.
“They have to elect people that must respect and follow the law. Respect the institutions, that is the key.”
