The 2021/2022 academic year in Cameroon, begins on September 6, with education authorities doing everything possible to ensure that students and pupils do not get stranded, as a result of irregularities related to the illegitimate existence of some private schools.
54 clandestine institutions of learning in the West region got shut down a few days after a similar crackdown on 42 establishments in the Center region.
The governor of the west region Awa Fonka Augustine gave instructions for closure of clandestine schools in his area of jurisdiction because many of them were operating with fake documents “the governor of the West region gave instructions to seal the schools that do not have authorization to function” the inspector general at the West region governor’s office stated.
During the exercise on Friday 27 August, proprietors were asked to regularize their situation before school resumes so that they don’t cause any problem for students and parents.
Out of the 54 implicated private institutions in the West region, 45 are primary schools and 9 are secondary.
