Instructions have been given by the Head of State Paul Biya, for a sum of 30,000 FCFA to be collected for each COVID-19 test carried out henceforth.
The exercise had been free of charge since the announcement of the first cases of the pandemic in Cameroon, early 2020.
With a drop in its prevalence though still present, and coupled with the financial challenges that the country is currently facing, President Paul Biya deemed it necessary to set a fee for each test that will be done from now on.
“With regard to the persistence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the budgetary constraints that come with it,
“I have the honour to pass to you the instructions of the Head of State prescribing that PCR tests against COVID-19, should be paid for at the sum of 30.000 FCFA” Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh wrote to the authorities concerned with the execution of the Head of State’s orders.
It was indicated that a mechanism will be set up in such a way that all resources generated will be recorded, for accountability to the public.
