Sunday 13 March 2022, was a day to remember for PWD Bamenda, and one to forget for Astres FC of Douala, who lost the 25th Cameroon Cup Final played at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.
Coach Anicet Mbarga Foe felt very disappointed when it dawned on them that they would have to wait longer, for another final. He described the refereeing on Sunday as “not in their favour”.
He said “I don’t like talking a lot about refereeing. It was not in our favour. Look at the action where we were supposed to have a penalty, when our attacker was fouled. I don’t know why that was not given…maybe the referee and linesmen were better placed to see what happened, but I tell you, there was a foul” Anicet Mbarga Foe pointed out.
The unfortunate outcome on Sunday made it four finals played and lost for the Brazilians of Bepanda.
However, their coach did not let it prevent him from celebrating his colleague’s accomplishment “PWD deserved their victory, I say bravo to PWD Bamenda, bravo to my colleague David Pagou, and every Elite who stood behind this team” coach Anicet said.
The Abakwa Boys won their first title after waiting for 43 years since they last played the final in 1979. This adds to their first Elite One Championship title clinched in 2020.
