The Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reforms Joseph Le, has said there has never been a plan to oblige State employees in Cameroon to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
He made the declaration during a press conference in Yaounde on Thursday 21 October, 2021. The government official said a vaccination campaign for State employees which he and Public Health Minister had announced was not meant to be compulsory
“We would like to emphasize that it has never been a question of obliging State employees to be vaccinated. To persuade, yes, to force, No. Our approach which is essentially persuasive is based on the instructions of the Prime Minister head of government in relation to the response strategy against the coronavirus pandemic in our country” Joseph Le expatiated.
He indicated that it is in the implementation of these directives that he and his Public Health counterpart decided to propose as a priority action the intensification of the vaccination campaign on the National territory intended for all personnel who are on the State payroll.
The Public Service Minister made it clear that it is not a matter of forcing people to be vaccinated but rather urging them to do it in the interest of their wellbeing and that of society as a whole.
