#BetaPipol construction work on the road entering the city of Douala, from its East side has been on hold for several months due to lack of funding. To solve this problem, a debt of 135.5 million euros ( 88.889 billion frs ) was contracted by the Cameroonian government with Standard Chartered Bank(UK) and the company-Achmea, on August 11th 2021.
To confirm this debt, the President of the Republic recently ratified the loan agreement. This was done by a decree signed by Paul Biya on October 7th.
Provided by UK Export Finance (UKEF), this envelope is intended to finance the rehabilitation project of penetrating east of the city of Douala. A breath of fresh air therefore for this site whose finishing and delivery are awaited by populations plagued by traffic difficulties for many years.
As a reminder, this project was launched a few years ago to decongest the road which gives access to the Douala-Bangui and Douala-N’Djamena international corridors, and to the Japoma stadium, chosen to host the matches of the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled in Cameroon in January 2022.
