Joel Embiid has been crowned the lead scorer of the 2021/2022 NBA regular season, averaging 30.6 points per game.
The Cameroonian was announced as this year’s winner after their victory against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday, April 10. Joel Embiid scored 41 points and grabbed 20 rebounds.
The Philadelphia Sixers center becomes the first international-born player and the first big man to win the scoring title since Shaquille O’Neal back in the 1999-2000 season. O’Neal averaged 29.7 points per game at the time he won the title over 20 years ago.
The past seven scoring titles were won by Stephen Curry, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook.
Embiid’s recent success may enable him to win his first MVP award. He is in contention for the award alongside other big men including Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Joel and the Sixers will face the Toronto Raptors in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
