It was a dream come true for fast-rising hip-hop artist Lill Humble, when Cameroon’s highly respected rapper Jovi, reacted to his freestyle on “Devil No Di Sleep”, one of the veteran artist’s songs.
Lill Humble said the response was more than what he expected, especially as the type of music he is doing is yet to be fully embraced by Cameroonians. “It is out of a certain context that has been defined for Cameroonian music”.
“Because of the steady work, people are starting to accept that my music is not out of space, and my music is actually a reflection of my environment, and of my culture in its own way” the young artist highlighted.
He disclosed that before doing the freestyle on Jovi’s song, he knew he would attain his objective, given that he had done much research about the artist whose works immensely inspired him “I had to do a lot of research before coming up with that freestyle, and I had to put it in a way that respects the original song, that respects Jovi’s originality, and that respects my own originality”.
The young rapper succeeded to get the feedback he wished for, and which even exceeded his expectations. “When Jovi gave me a shout-out, that was very emotional for me, that evening was really crazy cuz there were so many people who got to know about me because he posted me on his IG story, he tweeted about me on his Twitter, and he liked and commented on my post on Facebook. The impact was huge and from that day till date, I have been having new people coming to me to find out who I am”.
Lill Humble’s career has known significant progress within a short period of time. He had his first song in 2019, after which he maintained a high level of consistency with releases of songs like ‘Bad Emotions’ ft Da Bond, ‘On God’ ft Da Bond and Lyrical Joe, ‘Tragedy’ ft Kao Denero, ‘Hold my Hand’ ft Askia, ‘Brown Skin’, ‘I remember’ among others, as well as an album titled ‘Can’t be Stopped’.
