In his welcome address on the occasion of the 15th ordinary conference of CEMAC Heads of State in Yaounde, H.E. Paul Biya has said the movement of persons and goods within the subregion, needs to be facilitated.
He said it will foster “better intermeshing of our States, increased movement of people and goods, as well as improved performance of our economies.”
“We need to accelerate the release of the CEMAC biometric passport” the chair of the March 17 summit said.
He pointed out that there are certain key challenges that will have to be tackled, most of which are as a result of the COVID pandemic and the war in Ukraine. He regretted the increase in the prices of basic comodities and energy resources.
The Cameroon Head of State said efforts are being made to reduce the adverse effects of the world crisis. He urged his counterparts to make more sacrifices to ensure security and peace. “One of the threats on the development of CEMAC, is insecurity” Paul Biya indicated.
He said the havoc caused by rebel groups around the subregion, must not be neglected. “Our States are obliged to make huge sacrifices in terms of expenditure on security” the President noted.
He said the presence of the other five Heads of State indicates the determination to strengthen links of solidarity, fraternity, and understanding between the CEMAC countries.
