Cheick Tiote: Ivory Coast midfielder’s memorial to be held today in Beijing

A memorial service for Ivory Coast and former Newcastle United player Cheick Tiote will be held today Tuesday June 13, 2017 at Chinese club Beijing Enterprises.
A statement from Beijing Enterprises said: “Tiote’s family will be there with his team-mates past and present, and that Cheick’s corpse will be flown back home to the Ivory Coast on Wednesday.
BBC reports that Tiote’s Ivory Coast team-mate’s Gervinho and Papiss Cisse both of whom are currently at clubs in China will attend the service.
Cheick Tioté died last week of a suspected heart attack aged 30, after collapsing while training with his new club Beijing Enterprise in China.
He joined Chinese second-tier side Beijing Enterprises from Newcastle for an undisclosed fee in February 2017.

Tributes have been pouring to the Ivory Coast  midfielder ever since the news of his dead broke.

Ivory Coast team mate and Mancheter City midfieder Yaya Toure wrote on twitter “My brother Chiek. I cannot believe you are gone. I will never forget you”.

Former Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul posted: ” Deeply sad to hear the news about Cheick.. One of my favourite teammates.. My thoughts are with his family”.

 Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, who played with Tiote at Anderlecht, tweeted: “I am speechless and so incredibly sad. Cheick Tioté was one of the nicest and toughest teammates I have ever had. Rest in peace brother.”
