Sports authorities in Cameroon led by MINSEP Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, have rated coach António Conceição’s two-year stint with the Indomitable Lions so far, to be successful.
The remarks were made on Friday 27 August in Yaounde, during a renewal of the Portuguese’s agreement with the men’s national football team of Cameroon. The progress which is said to have been observed since his appointment on September 20, 2019, includes Cameroon’s first position obtained in group F of the AFCON 2021 qualifiers, and an improvement in the FIFA ranking from the 60th to the 54th position among others.
António Conceição and his staff have so far led the Lions to five victories, four draws and suffered just one defeat against Cape Verde. Presently, the head coach’s main tasks comprise, emerging as champions at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations that Cameroon hosts in under four months, and qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
It is worth noting that Conceição, 59, renewed his commitment with the Lions a few days after he released a 28-man list of players to represent Cameroon against Malawi and Ivory Coast, in a World Cup qualification phase for their Confederation beginning September 3, this year.
The renewed contract signed between António Conceição da Silva Oliveira and sports minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi alongside FECAFOOT boss Seidou Mombo Njoya, will last for two years.
