The Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana has told the Cameroonian population that in spite of the effects of the COVID-19, they will do everything possible to limit the increase of prices on the market.
He said they will not accept to go more than the population can handle. “As far as the prices are concerned, we will do everything possible to limit the increase of prices on our markets,” he told reporters.
The Minister also revealed that they are doing everything possible to prevent scarcity “we are able to anticipate through our discussion with the economic operators” Luc Magloire said as he stated some of the mechanisms they are using. Scarcity is one of the situations the Trade officials are working hard to tackle.
“When you go to the market and you can’t find food, it is a disaster to the families. On that aspect, I want to be very clear. No scarcity on our markets. We will not accept to go more than what the population can support” Trade Minister Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana.
Although Cameroon is having its own share of challenges brought by the COVID pandemic, the Minister has observed that the country is less affected than other nations in the world. He said the level of inflation in Cameroon stands at 2 percent whereas places like the United States have 5 percent, Nigeria 19 percent, Ivory Coast 4 percent and Ghana 9 percent amongst others.
