Authorities from some areas that will host activities of the 2021 Chantal Biya Cycling Tour, have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to showcase their towns to the world.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Celestine Ketcha Courtes, from Bangante in the West region, has said the event scheduled to run from 6-10 October 2021, would serve as a chance for people to know more about her town.
“I’m very happy because the International Cycling Tour will start from the West Region. It is a big gift to Bangante and I’m so proud and so happy, I want to thank Madame Chantal Biya, because it is a gift to those who are coming into our country for this cycling tour, I really want to thank Queen mother mama Chantal Biya for what she is doing” Minister Ketcha Courtes commented.
She said it is a way to support Mayors to make people discover their cities, to bring money in the cities because people will spend three days there. “When I was a Mayor, it was a wonderful moment for me to promote our culture, to promote tourism. I advise my younger brother the Mayor that he should take advantage of this opportunity that Madame Chantal Biya is giving to him to sell the city. This is what they call the cities marketing” Ketcha Courtes stated.
12 cyclists have been selected to represent Cameroon at the Chantal Biya International Cycling Tour. The five-day competition will be run over a distance of 693km in three regions of the country.
