Economic recovery NW/SW: “a lot has been done” – Joseph Dion Ngute

Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, has said the reconstruction and economic recovery of the crisis-stricken regions of the North West and South West regions, is going on satisfactorily.

He was in Buea on Friday, August 11, to evaluate the implementation of the recommendations of the Major National Dialogue of September 30 to October 4, 2019.

While chairing the fifth session of the follow-up committee, the head of government said “a lot has been done”. However, “we are not yet there” he noted.

He said they observed that industries and plantations have resumed activities in many cities, though regretting “there is still some difficulty especially in the rural areas.” The Prime Minister said they received over twelve proposals from participants on ways to ameliorate the situation.

The Director General of the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC), Franklin Ngoni Njie, said units of the company are now 75% operational after all activities were halted in 2018 due to the socio-political unrest in the two English regions of Cameroon.

The Prime Minister said all proposals raised during the meeting in Buea, will be submitted to the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, for “necessary measures to be taken.”
