Locals of Ekondo Titi started off Wednesday November 24, with saddening news of an attack on the Government Bilingual High School of the town, by gunmen who left at least three students and a teacher dead.
Reports further revealed that several persons were injured, with two major cases recorded. While the minor casualties were taken to local health facilities around Ekondo Titi, the four corpses and two severely injured persons were moved to the Regional hospital in Limbe, sources have confirmed.
The Divisional Officer of Ekondo Titi Subdivision, Timothe Abola, made a statement after the incident. He said the armed men behind the atrocity, got to the learning institution some few minutes to 8:00 am on Wednesday, and opened fire on the first students and teachers on campus that morning.
“At around ten minutes to 8:00 am, we had an incident at the Government Bilingual High School Ekondo Titi. Some terrorist boys who were already in the school campus opened fire on the first students and teachers who got to the school…after the incident, we recorded four death cases, among them one female teacher and three students” Timothe Abola disclosed.
The deceased students have been identified as Emmanuel Orume – 12 years old, Joyceline Iken – 16 years, and Kum Emmanuel – 17 years old, while the teacher’s name was gotten as Celestine Song.
It is yet to be confirmed who the perpetrators of the act are. So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
This adds to the wave of attacks and killings that have rocked the two English-speaking Regions of Cameroon in the past weeks. Notable among them have been the shooting of two female pupils by defense forces, each in the two restive zones of the country.
