Muslims in Cameroon and the world at large, will be celebrating the Feast of the Ram this year, on Tuesday, 20 July. There are several key things that mark the day with dressing being one of them.
Each person puts on their best outfit as they commemorate the day which is considered as the most significant on the Muslim calendar “I always make sure I put on my best dress to look good and different from other faithful” Kareem Abdul in Bafoussam disclosed.
He went further to tell Betatinz that, according to him, every faithful is expected to appear in their best attire “you should wear your best clothes with perfume to smell good” Abdul highlighted, adding that “if it’s possible, you buy a new dress but if there is no means, just put on the best clothes you have” he said.
The Eid al-Adha is observed as the most important feast in Islam. Believers commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ishmael, (Isaac) in submission to Allah’s command.
On this day, each family slaughters a cow or ram “the household eats about a third of it, a third goes to friends and relatives and the remaining goes to the poor and needy” Abdul Kareem explained.
Among some of the things to consider when choosing an animal to slaughter for the feast are; making sure that the ram is at least a year old, and that it is fully healthy. With all these respected, a Muslim faithful feels spiritually fulfilled after the Tabaski, as the feast is called in some parts of Africa.
