The Director General of the Cameroon Airport Company Thomas Owona Assoumou, has released a communique informing the public that the flooding which occurred at the Yaounde-Nsimalen International Airport on May 17, was as a result of a fault in the pipes meant to supply water in case of a fire incident.
After heavy rains in Yaounde on Tuesday, images showing workers sweeping water out of one of the airport buildings, surfaced online. Many people were convinced it was water from the heavy downpour.
However, the ADC Director has come out to clear the air, by making everyone understand that the flood was caused by a breakdown in the water supply system.
“Measures have been taken to ensure the smooth functioning of the facility with respect to strict measures of security and comfort” Thomas Assoummou assures.
Flood-prone areas around the country, especially in the cities of Yaounde and Douala, have in the past days been severely affected by the intensity of the rains during this period of the wet season.
This includes life-threatening as well as tons of material damage, each time there is a heavy downpour.
