French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Thursday announced aid of € 45 million to the Far North region of Cameroon, hit hard by the atrocities of the jihadist group Boko Haram.
“We are at your side in the fight against terrorism. This commitment is also a financial commitment, “said Jean-Yves Le Drian after a meeting with political and security officials in Maroua , capital of the Far North region. The aid is intended to improve the roads, the water supply and the sanitation system of Maroua, located in a triangle with three border countries (Nigeria, Chad and Niger).
France also finances projects in vocational training, health, education and agriculture in this very landlocked region, which has been ravaged by a series of jihadist attacks since 2014.
