The friendly match played between the Cameroon national football team and players of the Elite One Championship at the Douala Reunification Stadium Saturday, has ended in a 4-1 defeat of the locals.
Three of the goals for the senior national team were scored from the spot by Ignatius Ganago, Oyongo Bitolo, and Vincent Aboubakar with the fourth being an own goal.
Serving as a preparatory game, the encounter in Douala was programmed after Cameroon’s first match of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers against Kenya was canceled.
The Harambee Stars happened to have been eliminated before the start of the qualifiers, following a decision taken by FIFA to maintain a sanction placed on their football governing body, the Kenyan Football Federation.
They were suspended in February due to government interference in the activities of the football federation. The Kenyans had to regularize the situation two weeks to the match against Cameroon, a condition which was not fulfilled.
Rigobert Song and team will now play their first match of the AFCON qualifiers against Burundi on June 9.
