The G27 Group of the Social Democratic Front (SDF), have said they want the party’s chairperson Ni John Fru Ndi, to reconsider his “illegitimate” actions which have plunged the party into a crisis.
The group was speaking in Douala on Wednesday, February 22, during a press conference. They indicated that they will not participate in the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, planned by the National Chairman to take place in Yaounde over the weekend.
The party bigwigs said participating will mean they have legitimized the “abnormal” activities of the President.
This comes after the group of thirty-two party members jointly endorsed a document close to a month ago, summoning Fru Ndi to the Mfou High Court.
“Rather than applying the recommendations that were largely applauded in the party, the national chairman went ahead and created an artificial majority in NEC, with illegal appointments, so as to create a balance of power in his favour, in order for them to continue using the party for their private gains” one of the top officials said during the press conference in Douala.
“This pushed us to constitute an internal pressure group to push to a return to the fundamental principles of the party, and a strict respect of the party’s constitution” the protesting member added.
The party will participate in the March 12 senatorial elections, but their impact is considered to have drastically dropped.
The SDF will participate only in the Northwest region. It is worth noting that their lists in the Adamawa region were disqualified as a result of the party’s inability to pay the fee of 7 million FCFA.
