Martin Luther King Jr. (born Michael King Jr., January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American Baptist minister and activist who was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience based on his Christian beliefs. 
Among his works in the American non-violent civil rights movement, Martin Luther King Jr is famous for his “I have a dream…” speech
He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.
In 1968,he was assassinated on April 4 in Memphis, Tennessee. 
Every year, around his birthday; January 15, the third Monday of January each year, is reserved as the Martin Luther King day, which is celebrated worldwide in honor of his works. This year, the Martin Luther King day was reserved for today the 16th of January.
