The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon have recorded an 8-0 victory over the Gambian women’s national football team, in an AWCON 2022 qualifier in Yaounde.
The two teams met on Friday February 18, for the first leg of the third round of qualifiers for the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations scheduled to take place in Morocco, July this year.
Kameni Flora, Falone Meffoumetou, Genevieve Ngo Mbeleck, led Cameroon’s scorers against Gambia at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, with two goals each. Nchout Njoya Ajara and Bella Rose also netted as the home side consolidated their stature as favourites ahead of the second leg.
Coach Gabriel Zabo and his girls will travel to Gambia for the return fixture on the 23rd of February.
They look forward to grabbing a ticket to the final event in Morocco, which will also serve as a qualification tournament for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The top four teams in Morocco will automatically qualify for the World Cup to be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
