Activities marking the celebration of the 10th edition of the International Day of the Girl Child, were organized in Cameroon and across the world on 11 October 2021.
With the theme “The Digital Generation, Our Generation”, actors and activists voiced the need for girls to be given the chance to explore their capabilities. It was indicated that girls know their digital realities and the solutions they need to excel on their diverse pathways as technologists for freedom of expression, joy, and boundless potential.
Understanding such a need, a fervent call was been made for the amplification of the diversity of these tech trailblazers while simultaneously widening the pathways so that every girl, regardless of race, gender, language, ability, economic status and geographic origin, lives their full potential.
The International Day of the Girl Child every year, focuses on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.
A resolution on this, was first adopted on December 19, 2011, by the United Nations General Assembly declaring October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child.
