Seattle Sounders FC defender Nouhou Tolo, has said the Indomitable Lions’ friendly against the local players on June 4, would be a pleasure and opportunity for the national team to better prepare for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
According to the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League winner, the match is not to be underestimated, given that the local players are coming to prove their worth, “it is a friendly match but I think it will be very difficult.”
“They will be coming to demonstrate that they merit a place here. I was there in 2015 with Botafogo FC, so I know what it means. It is not going to be an easy match” Nouhou Tolo.
The scheduling of the friendly on June 4, happened after the AFCON qualifiers opener against Kenya initially slated for that date, was scrapped by FIFA following the ineligibility of the Harambee Stars.
Though considered an advantage for Cameroon, some players wish Kenya were not suspended, “It is unfortunate, I would have loved to play that match…, but it’s football and we have to expect such situations. We will play a friendly match which is equally something good. It is a good thing for the locals” Choupo Moting.
Rigobert Song and the local players had been training since May 23, following a selection meant to give visibility to home-based players.
The Elite One players will get a chance to display their skills when they take on the national team on Saturday, at the Douala Reunification Stadium at 4:00 pm.
