The Secretary of State to the Minister of Basic Education, Kilo Vivian Asheri, has helped some internally displaced children from Bui division in the Northwest region, to prepare for the upcoming academic year.
During the event which took place on Saturday 21 August in Bafoussam, 850 beneficiaries of the Secretary of State’s assistance were each handed back to school kits consisting of exercise and textbooks, pens, pencils and rulers. “We had at least 10 exercise books in each of the bags, which equally contained a textbook each. It could either be English, Mathematics, French or just a novel, because we need to make our children learn to read.
“If they can read well then their aptitude is better and they can perform better at school. We also had pens, pencils, erasers, rulers and sharpeners. Parents were exceedingly happy and grateful” Asheri Kilo.
The Bui Elite woman also expressed satisfaction with the excitement from the kids “you could have seen the children jumping and hugging us, the mayors that were there, the parliamentarians and Elite that were there. I had about 500 children just climbing all over my body and I felt really good and I felt like a mother. I felt like that is what we should be doing to ours especially knowing that the development goal number four is that every child should have equitable and quality education”.
Dr Asheri Kilo revealed that the next place where she would like to give assistance is in Kumbo, the headquarters of the Bui division. She said they are praying and working hard for peace to return to Bui so that all IDPs from there can return home.
