Fans have been encouraged to vote for their favourite African player in the LALIGA Santander, for the 2021/2022 season which ends soon.
This will be the first edition of the African MVP Award, which concerns just players who are eligible to play for their African national teams.
“Algerian-born French International, Kareem Benzema, was of course LALIGA’s standout player this season with Real Madrid, but the African MVP award will only be open to players who are currently eligible to play for their African national teams” the organizers of the award have said in a statement.
They further explained that the award is inspired by an acknowledgement of the increasing value, importance and contribution of African players to the growth of LALIGA.
The winner of the MVP Award will be picked out of the over 25 African players currently featuring in the Spanish topflight.
Among them is Yassine Bounou, favourite on the list. The Moroccan goalkeeper playing for Sevilla was voted Mid-season African MVP when the Award was being launched in January. Other players include Munir El Haddad and Youssef En-Nesyri playing for Sevilla, and all from Morocco, Abde Ezzalzouli from Morocco as well, but playing for Barcelona, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang from Gabon playing with FC Barcelona, Samuel Chukweze (Nigerian) and Boulaye Dia (Senegal) all playing for Villarreal
Public voting started on May 10, and will close when the season ends on May 22.
Fans who vote, stand a chance to win a trip to Spain to watch a LALIGA Santander match live. They equally have a chance to win LALIGA match jerseys among other merchandise.
