The Saint Mary Catholic Church in Nchang, Manyu Division of the Southwest region of Cameroon, has been reduced to ashes by suspected separatist fighters who also took some persons away.
Five Reverend Fathers, a Reverend Sister, and two Christians were kidnapped in the act which took place on Friday, September 16. Their location remains unknown.
The Bishop of the Mamfe Diocese Mgr Aloysius Fondong Abangalo, visited the scene and expressed disappointment at the despicable act on God’s house.
He called on the perpetrators to desist from such acts.
Reports say the church was attacked for not supporting the “Struggle”, and for holding mass on Sundays despite the lockdown imposed by separatist fighters.
The two English-speaking regions of Cameroon continue to languish in pain, threats, and restrictions imposed by the secessionists. The crisis has been going on for six years now.
