A man was arrested on Sunday after being pointed out by a 5-year-old rape victim. City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason says members attached to the Transport Enforcement Unit were on duty in Mitchell’s Plain area when they were alerted by members of the public of the rape.
“The members went to investigate but the 49-year-old suspect fled the scene. They took the victim to Mitchell’s Plain police station where the brave young girl informed the police officers she knew the suspect and showed them where he lived in Tafelsig Mitchell’s Plain.” Dyason says police arrived at the house and arrested the man.
Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed the alleged rape and said: “Mitchell’s Plain FCS are investigating a rape case after a 5-year-old girl was allegedly raped in bushes near Kapteinsklip station, Rocklands. A 49-year-old man was arrested and once charged he will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates’ court.”
