Measles continues its worrying progression on the national territory.
The disease is already present in 6 of the 10 regions of the country, with the exception of the North West, South West, Littoral and West Regions.
According to recent statistics published by the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), 1,427 cases have been recorded since the start of the year, in 79 health districts spread across the country.
In addition, 13 deaths from this epidemic have been reported, including 4 in the health districts of Kribi (South), 2 in each of the health districts of Gashiga (North) and Kolofata (Far-North) and one in each of the district sanitary facilities in Betare Oya (East), Awae (Center), Ngaoundal (Adamaoua), Ngong (North) and Guidiguis (Extreme-North).
50% of cases have been in children aged 0-59 months. 74% of the confirmed cases have not been vaccinated.
To stop the spread of the disease, the Expanded Program on Immunization launched a major response campaign during which some 344,480 children aged 9 months to 9 years from areas where measles cases have been recorded were vaccinated.
