The Volleyball Lions of Cameroon have lost the final of the 2021 Men’s African Nations Championship, against Tunisia 3 sets to 1, at the Kigali Arena. The Tunisians were crowned Champions for the 11th time and third in a row.
Cameroon succeeded to clinch just the first set of Tuesday’s final. They won 25-16. The North African opponents later took the lead and maintained it till the end. They dominated in the three remaining sets 25-21, 25-21 and 25-16.
Despite missing out on the first place, the West African Nation will return home with two distinctions; Christian Voukeng earned Best Blocker, while Arthur Kody finished as Best Server of the competition.
Other distinctions included Most Valuable Player awarded to Morocco’s Mohamed El Hachdadi, Best Libero to Mohamed Reda from Egypt, Best Receiver to Morocco’s Zouheir Elgraoui, Best Attacker Wassim Ben Tara from Tunisia and Best Setter earned by Khalid Ben Slimane from Tunisia.
It is worth noting that the Volleyball Lions qualified for the final after defeating Morocco 3 sets to 2 in the semi-final. The results of the final this September 14, is a remake of the previous edition in 2019 during which Tunisia edged Cameroon out to grab gold.
