The Minister of Communication Rene Emmanuel Sadi, has called on every newspaper publisher to take the submission of copies of their publications at his Ministry seriously.
He made the information public in a communique released on 2nd July 2021. Articles 16 and 24 of the Law of December 1990 relating to press freedom were highlighted to make those concerned understand the importance.
After this move by the Communication Boss, some owners of press organs are positive to the call “this communique is welcomed. It will permit all pressmen in Cameroon to know the law. This move reiterates the necessity for actors in the sector to submit to the law” a publisher favourable to the release said.
Several others have equally agreed that everyone has the duty to respect the law. One said he deposits his newspapers regularly at the Ministry of Communication adding that it is very important for other publishers to do the same thing.
This move simply comes as a reminder, as a number of publishers had been respecting the law. It was meant mainly for those who would rather prefer sharing their publications online forgetting that at least two of the copies need to be deposited at the Ministry of Communication.
