Some top security officials in Cameroon, attended a meeting on Monday, November 22, chaired by Minister Joseph Beti Assomo, ahead of the upcoming AFCON and end-of-year festivities.
The Defense Minister and his collaborators met to assess how security could be tightened all over the national territory during this period. The participants of the in-camera meeting included; Ministers of Territorial Administration, Sports and Physical Education, the Defence Chief of Staff, the representative of the Delegate General for National Security, the Director-General for External Research, the Five Joint Military Regional Commanders as well as field Commanders.
In their discussions, it was underlined that much vigilance will be exercised on the territorial, maritime as well as air space borders.
Although the Africa Cup of Nations will be held in five administrative Regions notably, the Centre, Littoral, North, West, and Southwest Regions, the authorities highlighted the fact that eventual attacks could arise from any part of the country.
The balance sheet presented during the meeting by commanders, on the security situation of their respective zones of competence, enabled the establishment of some recommendations, instructions, and resolutions for better security coverage during the upcoming festive period, and the AFCON in January 2022.
