Mysterious fire consumes Top Star hotel in Bamenda

Staff and security guards of the Bamenda Top Star hotel were taken unaware on Monday 5 June, when a mysterious fire broke out and ravaged the building.
The incident, which happened in the evening at about 4 pm, caused severe panic in the neighbourhood which harbours a filling station.
No loss of life was reported following the fire outbreak, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
However surrounding residents claim the hotel was intentionally set on fire by unknown people, because it was opened albeit they knew the town was observing a Ghost town, which has become a tradition in the English speaking regions of Cameroon especially in the North West region, where all businesses are supposed to shut down.
From various hilly areas around Bamenda, one could spot thick cloud of smoke that bellowed remorselessly out of the Hotel, as fire fighters grappled to put out the flames.
