The National Communication Council (NCC), has suspended three journalists for practices that do not comply with guidelines of the profession.
Sismondi Barkev Bidjoka, head of Ris Radio, Emmanuel Nynansi Nkouya, publisher of Confidence Magazine and Stive Jocelyn Ngos, journalist of DBS TV, all received sanctions during the 28th extraordinary session of the NCC in Yaounde, chaired by its president Joe Chebonkeng on July 5, 2021.
The first on the list Sismondi, got implicated due to insufficient investigation and broadcast of offensive information against Cabral Libii and as a result, he got a suspension of one month. A similar sanction of 30 days was given to Stive Jocelyn for relaying unsubstantial information against the French president.
For the Publisher of Confidence Magazine, Nynansi Nkouya, a six-month sanction was slammed on him for publishing a flyer containing offensive information against Senator Nghouchinghe Sylvestre, CEO of CONGELCAM.
The NCC made it clear that anyone who fails to follow the rules will not go unpunished “We are not here to mutter the press or sanction individuals, but that does not mean that those who violate press laws will not be sanctioned” Joe Chebongkeng indicated.
Every media person was called upon to understand that journalism is like a watchdog of the society, which is there not to bite for nothing, but to help guide and prevent quacks from invading the profession.
