The desecration of the St Mary Catholic Church in Nchang by armed men on September 16, has dealt a severe blow to the Church, Bishop Aloysius Abangalo of the Mamfe Diocese has noted, calling on the faithful to pray ceaselessly for God’s intervention.
Five priests, a Reverend Sister, and some Christians kidnapped on the day the St Mary Church was burnt, are still being held hostage.
“As I write to indicate that nine members of our beloved Diocesan family are still in the hands of the abductors, I urge you not to relax every prayerful endeavour for their safety and subsequent release” Bishop Aloysius said in a statement.
“It is thanks to the prayers so far that I attest that they are alive and strong and that we are gradually surmounting every feat surrounding their subsequent release.
“It is actually at this moment that we need to showcase our much-needed ‘One Family’ spirit, above all, by storming the heavens with prayers on their behalf and for all those in similar situations.”
The Head of the Bamenda Ecclesiastical Province Archbishop Andrew Nkea, had earlier reacted with much devastation, promising they will not give a penny as ransom to the kidnappers. He said the Church will not start what they cannot continue.
