After months of complaints by several teachers in the Ngoketunjia Division in the Northwest Region, as a result of the suspension of their salaries by the SDO, the Minister of Secondary Education Nalova Lyonga, has reacted, assuring them of investigations on the situation.
Some teachers in Ngoketunjia had been without salaries for close to a year. Orders instituting the suspension were signed on 24 February 2021, and 7 July 2021, by the Senior Divisional Officer of the Division, Quetong Handerson Kongeh. His reason was that the teachers had not been coming to school as the level of insecurity rose.
In Dr. Nalova’s communique made public on 26 January 2022, it has been indicated that the Ministry of Secondary Education is not linked to the decision taken by the Ngoketunjia SDO some months ago.
“The Minister of Secondary Education hereby informs the education community in general and that of the Northwest Region in particular, that MINESEC dissociates herself from the ongoing suspension of salaries that concerns almost all personnel in Ngoketunjia Division” the release reads.
Though not clear on whether the salaries are to be reinstated soon or not, the Minister reassured persons concerned that “investigations are being carried out in order to throw more light on the operation”.
