Ni John Fru Ndi to step down as SDF Chairman?

It has been confirmed by the SDF National Executive Committee (NEC), that a new chairman for the political party, will be elected during the elective convention which comes up in July 2023.

The decision was made during a NEC meeting in Yaounde, with focus on the reorganization of the party’s structure.

Ni John Fru Ndi has been President of the Social Democratic Front since its creation in 1990. For several years, the political movement was the main opposition in Cameroon, before the emergence of Maurice Kamto’s CRM in the 2018 presidential election.

There has been growing disagreement among members of the party, with some dissidents creating a faction in disapproval of Ni John Fru Ndi’s leadership.

In the March 2023 senatorial elections, they failed to win a single seat, as the ruling party, the CPDM, grabbed all 70 seats.
