FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto’o, told players of the Cameroon national football team after their friendly against home-based players on June 4, that there will be no sentiments in the selection of players for Cameroon’s upcoming AFCON and World Cup matches.
“You should know one thing, in a team, no one has a reserved place. And where we are headed now, I’m not hiding anything I’ll tell you we have seven matches to play in five and a half months. There will be no sentiments” Eto’o noted.
He added that there will be no friends, “we don’t have friends, we have a football team, and in a football team, it is those who merit it.”
“Believe me, between the coach and myself with four World Cup tournaments each, we know the problems of this house. He has all of my support. What he tells me, I will consider.”
Samuel Eto’o made the players understand that any match played from now on, will be serving as preparation for the World Cup in Qatar. “We are going to Qatar to win. We’re getting into each match to win…We have players here who play amongst the best” he remarked.
The senior national team had just defeated Rigobert Song’s group of selected home-based players 4-1, in a friendly played at the Douala Reunification Stadium on Saturday.
Their next outing will be the AFCON 2023 qualifier against Burundi on June 9.
